preparation to help you get comfortable with the welding process, the test plate, and the expected technique before testing.

Time Under the Hood Before Test Day
Preparation is hands-on. You spend your time welding, working with the test plate, and building familiarity with the technique expected of you.
Whether you're testing for the first time or getting ready to try again, the preparation is built around practical repetition.
CWB 1GF Preparation
CWB 1GF preparation focuses on practical repetition and test readiness.
Training May Include
- Test plate familiarization
- Plate preparation
- Machine setup
- FCAW practice
- SMAW practice where applicable
- Starts and stops
- Root technique
- Fill passes
- Cap passes
- Travel speed and angles
- Cleaning between passes
- Common weld defects
- Visual inspection
CWB Retake Preparation
If your last test didn't go the way you wanted, additional booth time gives you room to work on it before you test again.
Rather than going straight back to a retest, you can use the time to:
- Identify problem areas
- Practise your technique
- Work on the specific areas that caused difficulty
- Prepare before attempting another test
Options for Experienced Welders
